Archery is one of the oldest sports, yet in its highly modern form, it is one of the most universal. Neither age nor sex or language are barriers to enjoying this fascinating and sophisticated activity, which may taken as a leisure activity, a recreation or as a highly competitive sport.
Originally established in 1962, the Overton Black Arrows archery club was founded to assist members in all aspect of the sport of archery, from beginner tuition through to competition coaching.
Over the last 45 years, the club has established itself as a respected international archery club, with many county, regional and national champions as members. Club members have also been involved in: Coaching at all levels, British Team management, organisation of World Championships and World Games.
The club is affiliated to the Grand National Archery Society (GNAS - the governing body for UK target archery), Southern Counties Archery Society (SCAS) and the Hampshire Archery Association (HAA).
Members currently shoot a variety of disciplines, including Target, Field and Clout, using Recurve, Compound and Long Bows.
Equipment is available for novices to use until they develop sufficient technique to warrant the purchase of their own equipment.
The club meets twice a week at its range based in Whitchurch (between Basingstoke and Andover), shooting indoors on a 20 yard range during the winter and outdoors over all recognised distances during the summer.
Beginners courses are run on a regular basis and enquiries from anyone interested in archery are always welcome.
A variety of events are run throughout the year, including our annual Watership Down Field Archery Tournament.
